It’s all getting a little too squid orientated ‘round here…

We spent much of the last two weeks in Melbourne where our normal communication methods (landline telephones, wireless internet, homing pigeons) were difficult or impossible to come by.  The fact that we’ve not been blogging often stems from this rather than an absence of blogworthy happenings.  Take this happening for example: My father’s childhood friend was on tour playing guitar for Simon and Garfunkel and got comp tickets for me, the band and lucy and we got to sit 5 rows back from the stage in a packed arena and hang out backstage with the musicians.  Blogworthy.

I have mixed feelings about having ‘a routine’ as a way of life, but we fell into a pretty rewarding one while in Melbourne.  Just about everyday after breakfast we’d take a tram into a central suburb called Fitzroy and get tea or coffee at the Black cat café (252 Brunswick St, Fitzroy), $4 gourmet pizzas at Bimbos (376 Brunswick St, Fitzroy), and $3 drinks at Retro (413 Brunswick St, Fitzroy), after which we’d come home satiated and ready to cook or work on music.  We also played some good shows in the city and the surrounding area, the most notable was at a place called the Espy, where acts like De La Soul and Ghostface Killa play when they’re in town.  We also got recordings from that show, some of which we may decide to share.

So here they are.  The three photos that I think encapsulate the trip quite nicely… although I’m not entirely sure why yet.

Also thanks to our generous hosts: Stu and Brooke, Gemma and Strawberry, Median artspace (222 Victoria St, Brunswick), and Mike and Bridget (www.aviatorlane.com.au/) in Adelaide.  You guys are all amazing and incredibly hospitable people.
